"Norman Newton (b. 1929) was a CBC radio producer based in Prince Rupert and Vancouver. In the mid-1950s, he was freelancing with both the BBC and the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation in London, England. He left this work when he received a Canadian Foundation Grant to complete a novel about Aztec culture. He moved to Spain and subsequently to Mexico. The interest in Amer-Indian cultures aroused by this project is reflected in various musical documentaries he produced later in his career. In 1960, Newton rejoined the CBC as a staff member of CFPR Prince Rupert. By 1964, he had transferred to CBU Vancouver, working initially in radio drama and documentaries. He was eventually assigned to produce the broadcasts of the CBC Vancouver Chamber Orchestra, at the time when radio producers were beginning to specialize. Newton retired from the CBC in 1986."
