Biographical Notes:

In 1937 Don Lytle started freelancing as a film cameraman for Vancouver Motion Pictures and Fox Movietone News. In 1939 he collaborated on the Coast Films production Stanley Park. In 1940, for the BC Provincial Board of Health, he shot and edited Nine Cents Per Capita, which later won a National Film Society of Canada award.

Returning from WWII service in February 1945, he rejoined Vancouver Motion PIctures as a camera operator, shooting such films as Limbs to Order, Road to Recovery and Valiant Company. After a brief stint with Shelly Films in Toronto, he returned to Vancouver and taught at Walter Moberly School. In September 1947 he joined the Audio-Visual Department of the BC Dept. of Education, working under James R. Pollock, his former Coast Films colleague.

In April 1954 Lytle joined CBUT (CBC Vancouver's television operation) as director of film services, transferring to CBC Toronto in January 1956. He spent the remainder of his career with the CBC. (D.J. Duffy)
