Biographical Notes:

Estudió Humanidades, Filosofía y Teología en el Seminario de Bergara y en Vitoria. En 1953 fue ordenado sacerdote en Bilbao. Ha sido parroco de Lekeitio durante 24 años y también ha sido un cineasta apasionado y ha impulsado el cine vasco; además, ha sido profesor de cinematografía en la Escuela Laboral de Markina. También dirigió el Markina Film Club y otros clubes de cine vasco, y comenzó a organizar un Festival de cine vasco en Lekeitio en 1978 con algunos estudiantes. En 2010, la Federación Topagunea Euskara Elarteen creó las becas Benito Ansola, para la creación de cine vasco.

He studied humanities, philosophy and theology in the Seminar of Bergara and in Vitoria. In 1953 he was ordained priest in Bilbao. He has been Lekeitio's parishioner for 24 years and he has also been a passionate filmmaker that has impulsed Basque film; he has also been professor of cinematography in Markina's Occupational School. He also directed the Markina Film Club and other Basque film clubs, and he organized a Basque Film Festival along with some students in 1978, in Lekeitio. In 2010 the Topagunea Euskara Elarteen Federation created the Benito Ansola scholarships for promoting Basque filmmaking.
