The Moving Picture Club of New Haven

Year Founded:

1926

Location:

New Haven, Connecticut, USA

"The Motion Picture Club of New Haven has become a reality. After a year [1926] in which practically every month has brought forth a new production, formal or informal, the star performers, photographers and producers met at the New Haven Lawn Club, organized a club, and elected Kenneth E. Nettleton the first president. Miss Marjorie Tilton was chosen temporary secretary. Invitations to join the club will now be extended New Haven's most eminent citizens." ("Closeups" 29)

"Hollywood can boast of no club which will compare with the Motion Picture Club of New Haven, now in the process of formation. Great oaks, such as that club will, from little acorns, like the story of the merry widow and her seven suitors which eight home movie fans of New Haven filmed last winter, take their growth. Of course there were a few intermediate stages in the development of the oak such as "The Thrillproof Age."" (Nettleton 17)

"At the second meeting of the Amateur Movie Club of Riverside, Calif., "Vienna," produced by the Austrian Amateur Movie Club and "The Norfolk Case," filmed by the Motion Picture Club of New Haven, Conn., were screened." (Gale 618)

"AT a recent program of the Motion Picture Club of New Haven, the screening of the 1927 Bandbox was featured. This film was produced and photographed by the women of the club, the masculine members not having been allowed to know anything about it until it was shown at this meeting. It is a study of recent feminine fashions. The program included the exhibition of The Norfolk Case, a photoplay produced by the club for the Photoplay Magazine contest and the Club Newsreel of New Haven events." (Gale 165)

Their production The Norfolk Case was screened at the meeting of the Cleveland Amateur Movie Club in Jan 1929 (Gale 856).
