"Arousing meeting, preliminary to the formation of an amateur movie club, was held at Sheffield, England, in the rooms of the Sheffield Photo Company. Frank Mottershaw presided. A number of films, including some notable experimental work of Sheffield enthusiasts, were shown and the program included a particularly fine film taken by J. Hobson, of Sheffield, during his last Swiss tour. This preliminary meeting having proved such a distinct success, Sheffield amateurs are now effecting a permanent organization. The world club roster is growing." (Gale, 1927, 24)

"At the last meeting of the Amateur Movie Club of Sheffield, England, branch of the A. C. A., the projection of a two-reel film, "Through Unknown Africa," taken by Mr. Challoner, club member, was featured. The film, a record of the most interesting events on an arduous journey through Central Africa, was taken on 16mm. An additional attraction on this program was the screening of a film depicting the manufacture of lenses. At a previous meeting Dr. J. Pringle, president of the club, gave a practical demonstration of the processing of cine film. Members subsequently made experimental shots of the process by arc light. On the club's technical advisory committee are G. W. Mcintosh, J. W. Berry and Robert F. Unwin." (Gale, 1928, 411).
